“Casa San Bernardino in Buonconvento, is the home of Rosalba, Luca and Marco and also of the Leo dog. The house and the farm were bought by the parents of Rosalba in 1977. Here they cultivated the land, raised animals, produced wine.time, the house has been enriched by the presence of Luca and then Marco. and even today, Rosalba and Luca come here to make the garden and Marco to make a bicycle ride, in complete freedom.  garden, is curated by Bruno, the living memory of this house.

Buonconvento

Buonconvento – at 1,5 km from Casa San Bernardino – is the nearest village to our holiday home, located only 25 km Siena . The village of medieval origin, still preserves intact the walls, rises in the Ombrone Valley, the name derives from the Latin “Bonus Conventus” happy place, lucky place. The first historical hints are around 1100, but certainly the most important fact occurred in 1313 when, on 24 August, when Emperor Henry VII of Luxembourg died there (better known as Arrigo). To visit the Museum of Sacred Art and the Museum of Mezzadria , among the most beautiful in Italy.


 

MONTE OLIVETO MAGGIORE

Monte Oliveto Maggiore – at 10 km from Casa San Bernardino – The abbey of Monte Oliveto Maggiore is a monastic complex within the municipality of Asciano, seat of the Abbot General of the Benedictine Congregation of Monte Oliveto and is the seat of the territorial abbey of Monte Oliveto Maggiore. The Abbey was founded in 1313 by Bernardo Tolomei who decided to retire to this isolated place owned by his influential family. The structure of the Abbey reflects the classic setting of the Benedictine abbeys, has a large church, an impressive cloister, enriched by smaller cloisters not visited, a chapter hall, a refectory, a large library and the visit is completed with the possibility to admire also the ancient Pharmacy and the cellar.


 

San quirico

San Quirico – 19 km from Casa San Bernardino – is a Tuscan village that stands on top of a hill, halfway between two other famous villages of the Val d ‘Orcia: Montalcino and Pienza. Thanks to its position it is possible to enjoy breathtaking views of the typical landscapes of the Val d’Orcia. Within the territory of the municipality are the most photographed places in Tuscany such as the famous “cypress trees”. San Quirico was also an important stop along the Via Francigena and still retains the appearance of a medieval village. To visit: Collegiate Church of San Quirico and Giulitta, Palazzo Chigi (seat of the municipality), the Cappella Vitaleta, the Horti Leonini and much more.


 

Montalcino

Montalcino – at 15 km from Casa San Bernardino – It is a place known for the production of Brunello wine. It is located in the north-west area of Monte Amiata, at the end of the Val d’Orcia, on the administrative border with the province of Grosseto. The village has remained almost intact since the 16th century and is dominated by an imposing Fortress, the last bastion of the resistance of the Sienese Republic against the conquest of the Medici, art and culture. Montalcino, land of wine, oil and art, offers spectacular views from all its views, hills, vineyards and woods to loss of the eye.
